This was a storyboard for a classmate’s short film, David and Goliath, a stop motion duel between a knight and a giant. The film is heavily influenced by old westerns and samurai films and Ray Harryhausen’s creature work in films such as Sinbad and Clash of the Titans.

This film is essentially a long fight scene between two characters which was a really fun challenge. The medium of stop motion is very limited so shots or camera movements had to be simple and almost stripped back. The slow heavy movements of the giant were a fun contrast to the sharp speed of the knight. I liked the ingenuity of the knight and had him use his surroundings to his advance which was inspired by Jackie Chan’s unique fighting style. It shows his resourcefulness and gives him another element of likeability so the audience can root for him.
