Here is the art direction work and illustrations I created for my Brian Falls into a Piano project. The project was originally much smaller in scale but I wanted to do more because I was enjoying the subject matter and concept so much. It was a fun and engaging project that turned out very well.

I went for a vector lineless art style, I released I have a lot of focus on lineart in my illustrations so this was a good vehicle to do something different. My inspirations for the look for the inside of the piano were The Beatles Yellow Submarine film, mid-century pattern design, and Bolivian architect Freddy Mamani. As well as developing my beat board and look test, I created some character designs of the Beach Boys. I wanted to get to make sure I got their likeness down without compromising the minimal art style.

I wanted to have a juxtaposition between the beach and piano setting, both in colour and tone, with the beach representing the preppy surfer vibe of the Beach Boys of the early 1960s and the psychedelic world of the piano is a representation of Brian Wilson’s creativity and his desire to create more mature and artistic music.
